Shopbox is the inspiration of one the UK's leading transport and logistics companies - The Archbold Group.
Based in Leeds, Archbold was established in 1918 and so has generations of experience in delivering practical solutions to improve distribution.
Practical solution for shoppers and retailers
In 1997, having experienced the difficulties of home delivery from a logistics perspective, Archbold began work on developing a product that would allow for the unattended delivery of groceries and other goods to consumers.
It was felt that for both shoppers and retailers, the best solution would be a temperature-controlled, secure reception box. In 1998 a patent application was filed and this was subsequently granted in January 2002.
Recognising the potential for the product, Shopbox Systems Ltd was established as a separate company in 2001 to complete the full development of Shopbox.
Home-grown success story
The Archbold Group has created an integrated, international range of logistics, transport and distribution services, comprising:
- National logistics, with seven UK operating depots
- European logistics to regions such as Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Eastern Europe
- Dedicated distribution, employing a fleet of approximately 250 vehicles and 350 trailers
- Warehousing, storage and product consolidation
